Usual and Customary
Occupation Job Description
- A telephonic job description is
developed directly with the employer to document the usual and customary
occupation. It provides treating physicians an accurate description of
the physical tasks and requirements of the position held at the time of
injury.
- Detailed job descriptions are essential
for assisting physicians to make early determinations regarding injured
workers’ abilities to return to work in their usual and customary
occupation or to a modified or alternative position. It is cost effective to obtain
a telephonic usual and customary job description within 10 – 12 weeks of temporary
disability benefits being paid.
- For dates of injuries post 1/1/13
physicians are required to complete a Physician’s Return-to-Work &
Voucher Report (DWC AD Form 10133.36) once the injured worker is permanent
and stationary from all conditions and the injury has caused permanent
partial disability. A detailed job description would expedite a physician’s
response to complete the form accurately.
- The job description may also, in some instances, expedite a
determination of maximum medical improvement status as well as eliminate the
need to obtain supplemental reports from AME’s and PQME’s.
- FRS sends the job description to the injured workers for their
review and signature. If the injured worker has any discrepancies FRS will
review the discrepancies with the employer.
